Band on Band with Bad Pony
In case you missed it, Bad Pony have kicked off on a killer tour run, and are due in Brisbane tonight!
After dropping the incredible new EP, Deficency, the band have enjoyed rave reviews and gigs across Australia. To celebrate, Mark Webber stood into our shoes to interview fellow member Jarred Young.
We tour a lot, can you give up some of your best tips for tour survival?
Don’t go too hard, try and eat healthily and try and do some exercise. Do your best to live as you normally would and be kind & understanding towards the people that are being forced to spend lots of time with you. Also – EXPLORE. There’s lots to see.
First record you ever bought?
The first actual vinyl I bought was These Four Walls by We Were Promised Jetpacks. I discovered the bloody excellent Scotch band on MySpace way back in the day and they kind of dropped of my radar until one day I was walking past a record store in London and saw that they had put out their first full length that was propped up in n the window. I didn’t own a record player at the time but bought one as soon as I got back to Australia.
Do you recall the first time a piece of music made you feel something? Tell me about it.
Mark will love this answer because he’s a massive fanboy… Yearbook by Hanson. I was maybe 8 and heard it and had a little cry about missing all my friends (I had just moved to New Zealand from Singapore).
Give me three acts you’ve been listening to lately and what is cool about them?
YELLOWCATREDCAT – They’re everything you could ever want in a two piece rock band. Filthy Riffs. Punky vox. Angst galore. Can’t wait to see them on this tour.
Sophisticated Dingo – Another rad two piece band joining us on this tour. I don’t know what to say about these guys except that they’re A HELL OF A LOT OF FUN!!
Smoke Rings – I’ve started playing drums in this band in Melbourne and I really, really dig their songwriting. Real brit-poppy goodness and they’re stellar humans too.
Tell me about the first band you ever played in.
The first band I ever played in was when I was 12 or 13. It was with Kieran Foran (Who plays Rugby League for Canterbury Bulldogs) and I can’t remember who else. Maybe his also amazing footballer brother Liam. We had maybe 2 rehearsals and played Little Things by Good Charlotte. I couldn’t tell you what instrument any of us played.
You’re a top notch cook, what is your favourite meal to cook for people and why?
I spent my childhood in Hong Kong and Singapore where there are pretty large Filipino communities. I used to love this dish called Chicken Adobo (Adobo means sauce) because it’s the most delicious thing in the world. It’s also really easy and cheap so is great to cook for large groups. I also wish I copped more of the cooking ability of the Indian side of my family – I can definitely curry – but not like a pro.
