A night with Opera Queensland

“We are Opera Queensland, not Opera Brisbane.” Starting on August 25th Opera Queensland is hitting the road and taking the opulence of opera to rural Queensland.
Opera Queensland’s Artistic Director Lindy Hume said that they were proud of their connections with regional areas and wanted to continue to build those connections with their audiences by providing an intimate show for communities.
The company will be travelling to Sunnybank, Sandgate, Caloundra, St George, Roma, Monto, Bundaberg, Capella, Proserpine, Ingham, Hughenden and Mount Isa over three weeks, presenting unique shows in each town. Ms Hume said that these communities are not all the same, they have different stories and personalities and they wanted to ensure they celebrated that within their performances. She did however assure us that everyone would get to experience the grandeur of opera.
With four world class singers and one truly gifted pianist hitting the road, audiences are in for a treat. From classic operatic favourites to sassy Broadway hits, Ms Hume said audiences can simply expect a night of “good old fashion entertainment”. A lot of people tend to be scared off by the word ‘opera’ Ms Hume said, but A Night with Opera Queensland is a performance for the opera lovers, first timers and everyone in between.
A Night with Opera Queensland will be a chance for audiences all across Queensland to meet the people that form their opera company, to learn what goes into making their opera company and finally, being to able to enjoy the wonderful talents of the performers.
As the trucks roll up to your regional town filled to the brim with lavish costumes and grand sets, don’t be shy. Give opera a go, and before you know it you’ll be singing along with Madame Butterfly.
