The 2018 Matilda Awards - A Celebration For Queensland Theatre Industry
On a balmy Monday night, a night ripe with anticipation as much as with dusky heat, Queensland theatre industry gathered together at the Brisbane Powerhouse to celebrate and congratulate, the 2018 Matilda Awards.
In its 32nd year this ceremony is reaching new heights. Going above and beyond to organise a night like no other, celebrating what Queenslanders love in Theatre. Hosted by Judy Hainsworth and Lewis Jones, the 2018 Matilda Awards kicked off at seven pm and featured a variety of nominees from a variety of theatrical disciplines.
From categories such as Best Video Design, to Best Circus or Physical Theatre, to recognising the best Female and Male leading and supporting roles there was something to be had by all. Here is the list of the recipients of each category, congratulations to those nominated and to the recipients.

Emerging Female Arts Leader Award – Christine Flemingham
Bille Brown Award for Best Emerging Artist: Carly Skelton – Hatpin – Oz Theatricals
Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role: Andrea Moor – Hedda – Queensland Theatre
Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role: Jackson McGovern – The Owl and the Pussycat – Little Match Productions
Best Female Actor in a Leading Role: Noni Hazlehurst – Mother – If Theatre and QPAC
Best Male Actor in a Leading Role: Paul Bishop – Poison – EG and Metro Arts
Best Circus or Physical Theatre: We Live Here – Flipside Circus and Metro Arts
Best Musical or Cabaret: The Sound of a Finished Kiss – Now Look Here and Electric Moon in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse
Best Independent Production: I’ve Been Meaning to Ask You – The Good Room and Brisbane Festival
Best Mainstage Production: The Longest Minute – JUTE Theatre Company, debase productions and Queensland Theatre AND Prize Fighter – La Boite Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival
Best Director: Natano Fa’anana and Bridget Boyle – We Live Here – Flipside Circus and Metro Arts
