5 Brands to Support During COVID-19

5 Brands to Support During COVID-19
Jessica McKenna

In a time of social distancing, shopping for the latest trends is not what it used to be. Simply walking into your favourite retailer is paused for now, but luckily online stores are still operating.

With large companies offering discounts or free express shipping, the temptation to shop with retail giants is prominent, however, if your dying to get your shopping fix, may we suggest a few Australian based brands that equally deserve support during this uncertain time.

First off the bat is Cools Club, an Australian label that encourages self-expression and a rebellious spirit. A Sydney brand that is a branch off of Barney Cools, sells everything from top to bottom. The real stand out pieces though, their knit jumpers. The colour combinations and prints are not for the minimalists, but they are a lot of fun to wear while staying indoors, going on grocery runs and Facetime calls with your family this winter.

With fast fashion comes an enormous environmental footprint with both it’s production and disposal,  contributing a tenth of the world’s carbon emissions. With more than 60% of fabric fibers now being synthetic a brand that consciously aims to be sustainable and ethical is a brand that is worth supporting.

Hansen and Gretel, a Sydney based boutique, offers quality fashion that is made to last a lifetime, whilst also striving to be pioneers in sustainable practice. So why not pair the above, majestic killer whale jumper from Cools Club, with these classic, straight leg pants from Hansen and Gretel.

Winter is coming, which means its almost time for boot season – even if we are stuck indoors for a little while longer. If like me, you can’t wait to get your hands on some new statement boots, look no further than Nakedvice.

This Melbourne based fashion label has plenty of on trend shoes to suit every style but it is hard to look past a clean, minimal cowboy boot that can be easily worn with our Cools Club sweater and Hansen and Gretel pants pictured above, or stockings and a pleated skirt.

“I’ve always thought of accessories as the exclamation point of a woman’s outfit” a quote from Michael Kors that is as relevant now as it has ever been. Accessories such as head wear and bags truly make an outfit and Aussie label Valet Studio knows how to do them right.

Specializing in hair accessories and earrings that are statement pieces on their own, Valet Studio has found a niche market of luxury extras that appeals to everyone even if they don’t know it yet. Pair this gorgeous Tortoise shell and crystal claw clip with our above look to add a little sparkle and to avoid cutting or dying your hair this isolation. Your hairdresser will thank you.

Last but not least, a handbag that doesn’t hold a lot but looks ever so beautiful. Sister label to Valet Studio, Respiro Studio makes resin and beaded bags that can only be described as works of art.

With the ability to hold your phone, lip balm and a small snack, this little beaded beauty will be your best accessory while walking around your house this isolation and also a nice handbag when we can finally go out again.

While shopping isn’t at the top of everyones list right now, if we are going to buy something new, spending money on smaller Australian companies will not only help our economy but our fellow Aussies fashion entrepreneurs as well.

You can also always show your support on social media.
