A Letter to Morningside's Flour and Chocolate Bakery

An open letter to Flour and Chocolate Bakery:
Dear Flour and Chocolate,
You have ruined me. No longer can I happily munch on bread from Coles or Woolworths. Wonder White doesn’t do it for me any more. I no longer trust bread that considers itself ‘fresh’ after 2 days.
You have turned me into a bread snob. And whilst I am eternally grateful for being introduced to your Vienna loaves and absolutely adore your baguettes, I lament the days when not having your bread on my kitchen bench didn’t cause me serious concern.
Slicing into one of your Vienna loaves is my main source of enjoyment upon waking. Toasting it to perfection (which is consistently easy with your bread) and with melted butter and vegemite it’s a better pick-me-up than any coffee.
Your baguettes make the perfect lunchtime meal. The crunchy exterior of your baguette melts away into the light, fluffy, white interior and is the perfect addition to any flavour combination. Classic, simple flavours of butter, ham and cheese allow the baguette to truly shine. Topping the baguette with smashed avocado, lemon juice and pepper makes for a meal tastier than any café could provide.
But it’s not just your bread I’m in love with. Your pastries have also stolen my heart. Donuts and gonuts galore make Wednesday and Thursday the best days of the week. It’s a tie between your salted caramel and sour cherry fillings with both deliciously indulgent and highly worthy of your light, sweet donuts. They are my favourite treat and I cannot help but smile as I bite into one, even if it does leave my face covered in cinnamon sugar.
Whilst your donuts and gonuts naturally receive regular amounts of praise, your other pastries are equally as deserving. The choux pastry in your chocolate éclairs is perfectly light and better than any I’ve tasted, in Australia or in France. The flourless chocolate and raspberry roulade is beautifully impressive for a dinner party and naturally, your croissants and pain au chocolat’s are melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
So, my dear Flour and Chocolate, I recant what I said earlier. I do not resent you for baking the best bread and pastries on the east side and for supplying me with such delicious treats all year round. I adore you and shall continue returning week after week to buy your much desired bread.
