Anna Heinrich and Liz Cantor know their races fashion

Is there anything more fabulous than racing season? This is a time where creativity shines and you won’t be given the stink eye for over doing it. With our “shrimp on the barbie†culture, us Aussies don’t get a lot of chances to glam up like Kate Middleton. Ditch those denim shorts because as always the theme is old world with a modern twist.
However, choosing what to wear for the races is never easy. Race trends are changing fast.
So who do you get to lead you through the maze of do’s and do nots? Have no fear Anna and Liz are here!
Doomben Cup Day Ambassador, Anna Heinrich and Channel 7 Brisbane fashion expert, Liz Cantor co-hosted the fashion of the fields workshop, Â giving us an insight into this seasons trends in racewear. The event was held last week at the Indooroopilly shopping centre.
Liz, who clearly is having a love affair with Cala Zampatti, is no stranger to fashion. Being a Brissy girl she says she hopes this year the city will make its mark on races fashion.
“I’m particularly looking forward to … seeing Brisbane step up their level of race wear fashion and take a few more risksâ€
Liz says that she prefers to verge away from the traditional when choosing her millinery.
“I think there’re a time and place to wear a fascinator…but I personally do prefer the headband or the hats … more unconventional looks.â€
Well, it seems the Instagram star know what she’s talking about because the bands are back. Yep, we’ve travelled to the 90s where headbands were the only thing a twenty-something wanted other than overalls.
But don’t throw mud, they’re actually a revelation. There’s no need to fuss with the clips of a fascinator just pop on a headband with mesh!
Anna Heinrich seems to be leading the trend after rocking a spiky number on derby day.
No matter what year it is, though, different race day means different outfit. The girls gave some great advice on what to wear when.
Treasury Casino & Hotel Ladies’ Oaks Day | Saturday 4 June
For Oaks Day, it’s all about being pretty in pink. Keep your look girly and cute. Think florals, lace, and gorgeous tea length skirts.
Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup Day | Saturday 21 March
Doomben Race Day is always about being ahead of the pack in terms of fashion – you can try to break away from the classic feminine looks. Wear a fedora or opt for an asymmetrical hem.
AAMI Stradbroke Day | Saturday 11 June
Black & white with a touch of red, that’s the main thing to keep in mind when dressing for Stradbroke Day. The monochromatic palette will exude class and sophistication. But as Anna says, don’t be afraid to add in some unconventional elements to your look.
