Annie Burnell: All Is Reborn
Paris based Australian musician Annie Burnell debuts her impressive, hard hitting single ‘All Is Reborn’.
The poetic track was released alongside an aesthetically marvellous, cinematically pure music video. The film clip tip toes somewhere between the makings of French filmmaker Robert Bresson and Wes Anderson – making for delightful viewing.
Originally from Byron Bay and currently residing in Paris, Annie Burnell seems inspired by her French surrounds. Music, film… art. In addition, she derives musical influence from Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen to name a couple – which can certainly be heard through ‘All Is Reborn’.
The single delivers emotionally evocative lyricism through rich vocals, which are well complimented by the breezy, yet grounded instrumentals. When coupled with the music video, (directed by Antoine Henault) the combination of both sound and visual is truly captivating – sending the viewer to a distinctly European world. Capturing a sleepy coastal town, and those who live in it. It makes for an authentic viewing experience
The elegant melodies laced within ‘All Is Reborn’ drive the track forward, which, as we see in the film clip – is where our heroine (Annie) wants to be. (spoilers) It’s where she ends up. The viewer is subjugated to the darker side of the psyche for the majority of the music video, however as the song progresses, as does the lighter side of the story. A suitable and satisfying experience for the viewer that provides a deeper value to the song itself.
After the release of ‘All Is Reborn’, more tunes from Annie Burnell are surely on the way. If this is any indication of her sound- we have a lot to look forward to it. In the meantime I’ll sit back and enjoy the film clip a few more hundred times, as well as this sweet little live track in her home:
