The Anywhere Festival is up and operating, albeit at limited capacity, and has found a way to support local artists.
The avant garde Anywhere Festival known for its spontaneous, diverse, and geographically scattered performance projects has decided to extend a hand to local artists in need of advice and guidance as the Queensland Art community deals with consequences of COVID-19. On June 5th, the organization is hosting Friday at Five, a Zoom video conference session, where artists can get advice from the Anywhere Festival team. Artists who show up will also be given the opportunity to shout out any projects they are working on or have finished.
The Festival would have otherwise been cancelled this year if it wasn’t for, as Anywhere Festival reports the largest single donation the initiative has ever received. Anywhere Festival Founder Paul Osuch, commented “The donor wanted to donate to an organization that could work directly with independent artists falling through the cracks of many of the government schemes, which is most independent artists”. This has allowed the festival the opportunity to fund at least a small number of projects through the current covid-19 restrictions. After the ‘sold out’ success of their Social Distance Slumber Party by Glitter Martini in early May, it’s not hard to imagine they see this Zoom conference as another way to give back.
If you are interested in attending be sure to grab a spot, though the event is free there is very limited seating. Also follow Anywhere Festival on Facebook, and their media release page to keep up to date on future events they are doing.
