Being the Change: Inside Fashion Revolution

Being the Change: Inside Fashion Revolution

| On 07, May 2014

Do you know where your clothes come from? No? Well in the most polite way possible, you better do some digging and find out.

On the 9th of May 2014, the Ethical Fashion Show Evening, Being the change: Inside Fashion Revolution will see Brisbane join the ranks of some of the world’s largest cities from over 52 countries, partnering with Fashion Revolution Day to celebrate a worldwide movement demanding fair treatment for all garment workers.

Last year, on April 24, over 1133 garment workers were killed and a further 2,515 people injured due to unsafe working conditions in the Rana Plaza factory in Bangladesh.

In what is considered to be the deadliest garment-factory accident in history, this factory produced garments for companies such as Benetton, Bonmarché, Joe Fresh, Mango, Matalan, Primark, and Walmart, to name a few.

.

Many more garment workers around the world, who produce the clothes that most we of us wear, continue to suffer as a direct result of our fashion supply chain.

.

In today’s society, people who value sustainable living are making ethical and organic decisions apart of their daily thought processes and routines.

.

In the same way that we separate our general rubbish from our recycling and spend the extra money on organic fruit and vegetables, clothes should be an item that we give more thought too before purchasing.

.

Being the Change: Inside Fashion Revolution is an evening about discovering some of Brisbane’s most exciting Ethical Fashion Brands; connecting with the story of “Who Made Your Clothes” and celebrating the power we have to change lives through Fashion.

Event sponsors Alice and Louise from Sinerii have said, “We are thrilled to be part of the global fashion revolution – we have seen first hand the affect that fashion production can have  on peoples’ lives; both the positive and the detrimental. The ethical fashion world is exciting, positive and energised place to be and we want to get the message out there that as a conscious consumers we can make a huge difference to the lives of the people who make our clothes.”

The event will be held at the University of Queensland and will see fashionistas, students, designers, local politicians, musicians, factory workers, campaigners, academics, the media, fashion lovers, and any individual who cares about what they wear coming together to celebrate a truly unique night.

With powerful speakers, beautiful fashion, glamorous models, creative and sustainable styling, and a number of incredibly fun and interactive side activities to showcase Who Made Your Clothes, delicious food, champagne, music and a truly diverse guest list, this is not an event on the Brisbane Fashion Calendar that you do not want to miss.
