Bigger, Better, BIGSOUND To Hit Fortitude Valley

Bigger, Better, BIGSOUND To Hit Fortitude Valley

| On 10, Apr 2017

There’s little that can be said about Australian music festivals. They’re loud, rambunctious and unforgettable. BIGSOUND 2017 promises to be all that and more.

Returning to its birthplace in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, 2017 will see it come back bigger and better than ever, with more in store for the bands and concert-goers alike.

Levi’s, a sponsor for BIGSOUND, has $100,000 up for grabs as the annual cash prize pool reaches new heights. This is the biggest prize to have hit Australian music festivals and it gives more than a small incentive for artists to perform at this year’s event. An initial $25,000 will be presented at the end of BIGSOUND, with opportunities for other alums to apply for $25,000 for the remaining three quarters. These alumni must have performed at a BIGSOUND event during the past five years. The judges for this prize will be from an assembly of industry experts and will see that those who are successful gain a leg up on their careers. The festival has expanded its wings, as this year the annual gathering will be held over four nights, instead of the usual three.

This gives artists a chance to perform more than once over this period. “The choice was an easy one, with our focus purely on making sure that artists get the best opportunity possible to get in front of the people that matter. We have dozens of internationals flying halfway around the world to see great Australian music and we want to give them the best opportunity to see the acts they want to see in the best possible setting,” said QMusic Executive Officer Joel Edmondson. “Expanding to an additional night also makes for a far better experience for punters, with extra chances to see their next favourite band.”
