BIGSOUND Returns in 2018!
BIGSOUND have just announced this year’s dates and opened artist applications.
BIGSOUND, for those who are unfamiliar, is a festival that takes place in the Valley for all things music industry. Not only are there showcases of all your favourite up and coming bands but there are also a variety of panels and forums to attend for those looking for an insight into the industry.
Taking place on September 4th to 7th, BIGSOUND is ready for their biggest year yet. They’ve introduced a student rate in order to bring in a new generation for music industry professionals.
They’ve also brought in First Nations Producer Alethea Beetson who will be working with BIGSOUND to enhance cultural appropriateness as well as welcome people from all walks of life to get involved. “We want to use BIGSOUND this year as an opportunity to create growth not just in the music business and economy, but culturally and socially too,” says Maggie Collins, Executive Producer.
A big part of BIGSOUND are the artist showcases which anyone can apply for here. If you’re a musician and you’re wanting to follow in the steps of Violent Soho, Gang of Youths, The Jungle Giants or Courtney Barnett, then this is the place to be with these acts once taking their place on the BIGSOUND stage. Applications close May 10th so get in quickly to secure your spot.
On top of being able to showcase their talents at the festival, BIGSOUND artists are eligible for the $100,000 Levi’s Music Prize. Last year Levi’s awarded both Stella Donnelly and Alex Lahey $25,000 each to help their musical careers.
If you’re a musician looking to take your career to the next step and reach a wider audience or if you’re someone wanting to get started in the industry, this is definitely the place to be. From showcases to panel discussions, “BIGSOUND is the biggest gathering for the contemporary music industry.”
