Brisbane's 5 Best Fashion Markets to Explore this Winter
We all love a bit of retail therapy at our local shopping centre, where we can visit our favourite fast fashion stores and maybe break the bank in the process. But, what if there was a way to shop the latest trends and not break the bank, while also supporting local and sustainable fashion?
These five Brisbane fashion markets are the answer, offering a selection of stylish handmade, vintage and second hand clothing that will invigorate your wardrobe.
Suitcase Rummage is a market that embraces all wares, whether that be fashion, artwork, books, jewellery, hand made clothing, music or stationary. Created in 2010 with the aim to connect the community, support the creative industries and encourage sustainability, this market sees stall holders sell their goods out of suitcases. Having sold clothing and attended Suitcase Rummage myself, I recommend heading down to Brisbane Square on the first and third Sunday of the month to find yourself some hidden gems.
The Young Designers Market
Since 2007, The Young Designers Market has been showcasing the untapped talent of aspiring designers, giving them the opportunity to showcase their work, and launching their careers in the process. The market features exciting and affordable fashion, jewellery, home design and prints from up to 80 of Brisbane’s best new talents. So, if you want to grab a one of a kind piece, head down to The Young Designers Market, which happens on the first Sunday of every month from 10am – 4pm on Little Stanley Street, South Bank.
Bris Style Markets
The Bris Style Markets are more than just a monthly event, but rather, Bris Style is a group of over 350 Etsy sellers who understand the excitement that comes from producing handmade goods. With their love of everything local and handmade, the group organises multiple markets every month that only feature 100% locally made fashion, jewellery, art and décor. You can catch these Bris Stylers at the Bris Style Twilight Markets on the 26th of July or The Bris Style Handmade Markets on the 24th of August.
Metre Market is Brisbane’s one stop shop for second hand, local and handmade clothing, featuring an impressive line-up of carefully curated creative businesses. Founded in 2015, Metre Market values sustainable shopping, believing that by recycling belongings or shopping handmade we are doing our part to help the environment. You can contribute to sustainable fashion by visiting the next Metre Market at Coorparoo Square on the 7th of July.
Her Wardrobe Markets
Attention shoppers! If you want to peruse a plethora of sustainable and unique wares for the whole family, the Her Wardrobe Markets is the choice for you. Featuring makers and creators of all kinds, alongside their fashion stalls, this market offers men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories and much more.
With multiple markets every month across Queensland, you can check out their latest Brisbane events at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds on the 30th of June.
