Brisbane's Best Banana Smoothies
Gabbi Briner | On 29, Dec 2014
It’s the sticky time of year where it’s completely acceptable to replace a meal with an icy, creamy smoothy.
Banana smoothies are a summer menu staple. A perfect banana smoothie should be filling, creamy, cinnamon-ey, and, most importantly, cool.
Banana smoothies may have benefits reaching farther than indulgence. Research suggests that bananas lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and even reduce chances of cancer.
If I haven’t sold you yet, I’ve scoured Brisbane and some popular holiday destinations for the best banana smoothie possible.
The original quench is situated at the James St Markets yet the Quench overlords have spread their wings, extending their juicy goodness to customers at Gasworks and Southport. Their banana smoothie is icy, thick and yoghurty, everything a banana smoothie should be. Both the regular and the large leave me feeling full until dinner!
A large is $7.50, cheaper than any lunch in the James St precinct. They also sell gelati, juice and sandwiches if you need something more hefty.
2. Raw Pawpaw
Raw Pawpaw paws (or pours even) so many different banana smoothies. Â Their Coco Nana is the ultimate healthy banana smoothie complete with coconut, chocolate protein and almond milk.
Liquid Gold is made with banana, mango, passion fruit and coconut water for the dairy-averse.
You have to fork out a little extra for a Raw Pawpaw smoothie – a Coco Nana is $9.
3. Raw Energy, Perigian Beach
Raw Energy is located on Perigian Beach at the Sunshine Coast. Their focus on local and fresh produce and house-made goods ensures their smoothies have some serious game.
Try their Yogi Bear smoothie which comes with banana, peanut butter, protein powder and yoghurt or ice cream. The peanut butter adds a salty dimension to the smoothie, not to mention protein!
4. Oasis, Brisbane City
Who doesn’t recognise the fruit covered juice bar in the middle of Queen St Mall?! Oasis only offers 6 smoothies, all showcasing mango, banana, pineapple or passionfruit. Their banana smoothie is super creamy and delicious… Almost tastes too good to be healthy. Be warned that the yoghurt they use is similar to Fro-Yo in taste, so if you’re not a huge yoghurt lover, ask for less yogie.
Banana smoothies are delicious. Add to your smoothie repertoire by trying one of these delicious gems on a sweltering day.
