Calling Visual Artists - BIGSOUND Wants You

BIGSOUND is extending an opportunity for Australian visual artists!
The organisers of BIGSOUND want to see dynamic visual artists and musicians meeting at the upcoming September festival and are offering two options for those who aspire to art as a career. These options are to either take part in the Public Art Showcase, or to join the Festival Design Team. The Public Art Showcase is an option for visual artists to apply to have their work exhibited either in the “public realm†or at the music venues in Fortitude Valley.
“The history of music since there’s been TV, is really that the image is an important part of the musical experiences, as music is. And I think increasingly we live in a time where art forms are converging and that’s not just art and music together but it’s everything else.†Joel Edmondson is the Executive Officer at QMusic. What he thinks BIGSOUND is looking for in a successful applicant is those with “a strong core of technical abilities†as well as “an open mind to engage in ideas.â€
Applications for the Festival Design Team are also open and those 10 visual artists who are successful will work with Splendour in the Grass Senior Creative Manager Janne Scott. In order to be eligible, you are required to be residing in South-East Queensland, be available to attend workshops in July, be flexible and have a “compelling portfolio†of current work.
Who can apply? “Pretty much anyone can, I mean I think our preference is to give emerging artists an opportunity but obviously, we also need to ensure that the work that’s produced is up to standard in terms of the quality of an event that BIGSOUND is already…But there’s also an open call for anyone around the country who would like to get their artwork in front of music industry audience.â€
