Cassidy the Label - In Preparation for MBFF 2019
With the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival just under a month away, this year’s group of talented designers are excitedly putting the last touches on their collections before they hit the runway!
More excited (and nervous) than anyone however, are the designers debuting their work at The Fantauzzo Next Gen Group Show, a showcase of fresh, creative, and avant-garde artistry. In anticipation, we caught up with some of these designers to get their take on the MBFF and grab a sneak peek of their 2019 collections.
Cassidy the Label is the creation of TAFE graduate Cassidy Hardingham, who, driven by her love of all things fashion and textiles and wanting to be her own boss, did just that! The Brisbane based label sets themselves apart through their handmade designs created right here in Australia and their introduction of a made to measure feature, so you can customise your garment. This girlboss truly caters to all women, ensuring you are dressed to impress in a beautiful and unique outfit. This week we were lucky enough to sit down with Cassidy to discuss her MBFF debut, upcoming collection and her already monumental achievements as budding designer.
TCI: This is your first time at MBFF, what was it like to find out your designs would be on this year’s runway?
Cassidy: It was a great feeling. Having your designs in a prestigious runway show like MBFF is such an important milestone to reach in any designers’ journey! The thought of so many fashion lovers seeing my pieces on show is almost too much to handle.
TCI: How have you been preparing for MBFF?
Cassidy: I have been spending my days creating my S/S19 pieces. Starting with the designing and patternmaking, toiling to get everything just right, and now I’m finally in the process of making the final pieces. I’m also on the lookout for awesome accessories to pair perfectly with my designs when they go down the runway!
TCI: What can audiences expect from your Spring/Summer 19 collection?
Cassidy: This coming S/S19 collection is going to be showcasing a hint of utility fashion but with a new take on the popular trend. There will also be ruffles, zippers, cargo pockets, tassels and more! The colour scheme will appeal to most fashion lovers as there will be something for everyone, whether you like to keep it simple and clean or strong and versatile or even bright and ‘all eyes on me’.
TCI: You were recently featured in Frankie Magazine and British Vogue, how does showcasing your designs at MBFF compare?
Cassidy: I would say all those achievements are all amazing and exciting in their own individual ways. For example, being in both magazines was such a buzz because I always flicked through those mags while at TAFE and barely even imagined being in them. Now I have a small spot of my very own in both! I think it’s the start of many and it’s given me the motivation to aim for a FULL PAGE SPREAD!
But then being in MBFF is more real, more physical and more of a leap of faith that I need to take. It’s almost a test for me, to see if I can handle the process of being in a crazy busy runway show, and I think I’m doing pretty well at this moment in time! This show also gives me a chance to get my name out there to the all-important fashion influencers and other important guests, as well as to show them all my pieces live down the runway. But this also is exciting because I will get to experience it myself as a guest!
