Celebrate Brisbane, Beer & BBQ’s in the name of National Science Week

Celebrate Brisbane, Beer & BBQ’s in the name of National Science Week

| On 13, Aug 2014

When scouting new community based events around town, creativity and science sometimes go together, right? If you are in the mood for something different on a Saturday afternoon, join  celebrations for the kick-off of National Science Week in true Brisbane style. Come along to let your creative and scientific side combine for a synergy of Brisbane, beer, barbeques and community spirit – all in the name of science.

Proudly hosted by The University of Queensland and Queensland’s National Science Week Committee, this free public event features a series of short, informal talks by some of Queensland’s leading beer and food science experts. Now, I know that it is a slight step away from the usual Saturday afternoon scene, but with an open invitation to rub shoulders with some of the best local names in the know, why not take this opportunity to embrace a few facts about the science of beer? Perhaps you might even gain some insights into the scene of sustainable seafood?

Grab some friends and enjoy a drink as you explore the various displays in the exhibition area. A highlight exhibit includes Green Living Australia, who demonstrate the science and art of cultured food and get inspired to create preservative and additive free artisan foods at home. For those who are passionate about their sweet tooth, Nick’s Chocolates aim to help us understand the process behind South East Queensland’s handmade single origin chocolate.

Come along to listen, learn and celebrate leading beer and food science experts at an event that captures the essence of both National Science Week and our city so well. It is almost a perfect match, just like beer and barbecues and the creative-minded, scientific people – don’t you think?

Either way, foodie, beer lover, or just here to support the spirit of science and Brisbane, you’re bound to come away with a handful of fun facts to impress somebody with. Cheers to beer and BBQ’s in the name of science!
