Coming up: Brisbane Festival 2018
Brisbane Festival is here again, with an abundance of entertainment and activities for every Brisbanite!
Brisbane Festival has unveiled their exciting 2018 program, and with almost 600 performances (a hundred of which are free!) across nearly 70 shows and within 17 venues, there is sure to be something for all. The program begins on September 8 and lasts for 22 days featuring over 1000 performers and artists.
Highlight events include two major Riverstage music performances that open and close the program and are headlined by locals Ball Park Music and Violent Soho. And a new light-and-laser show will feature on the big, beautiful Brisbane river, illuminating Brisbane nights for the full 22 days of the festival’s program!
In a new approach, the program is separated into three distinct acts, one for each of the three weeks of activities. Artistic Director for the festival David Berthold explains “each act has its own explosion of story, and each opens a window to the word that will entertain and delight.”
With themes of home, memory, and gender, week one—Act One—will treat us to almost 30 unique productions across 15 Brisbane venues, including Treasury Brisbane Arcadia, Theatre Republic, and The Tivoli. Act Two in the second week introduces circus, dance, and music works that cast the individual against the giant forces of nature, fate, and society. And Act Three, the third and final week of the program, delivers a fierce and fun climax to the preceding weeks.
Brisbane Festival closes with our much loved Sunsuper Riverfire celebration on September 29, where our city sky ignites with light and our parklands with festivities, all to be enhanced with a fun soundtrack themed on Sci-Fi and Superheroes.
Check out the program here and don’t miss out on anything that catches your fancy. We’re spoilt for choice this year with the Brisbane Festival, so let’s support our local creative industries and enjoy this super September!
