Contact 2016 Brisbane Event

International And Domestic Writers And Creatives Converge At Contact2016 In Brisbane

| On 18, Mar 2016

Calling all book lovers and aspiring writers! We’ve got a treat for you this Easter weekend with the fabulous opportunity to interact with your favourite writers from Australia and overseas.

In 2016, writers, craftsman, creators and fans from across the country will descend upon Brisbane for the first time in ten years for the 55th National Speculative Fiction Convention.

Celebrating the genre of speculative fiction in all its forms, Contact2016 will showcase the dynamic writing community and fan culture of Queensland. Its aim is to engage this community in national conversation and connect writers, artists, creators, fans, innovators and professionals alike through their love of speculative fiction and pop culture.

Joining the cast of local and national convention-goers for a weekend of discussion, learning and creativity will be UK bestselling author of the Rivers of London series Ben Aaronovitch, US pop culture commentator Jill Pantozzi (The Nerdy Bird), New York Times best-selling Australian author Keri Arthur (Riley Jenson Guardian series), Brisbane author and seamstress K.A. Barker and debut Sydney author Maria Lewis (Who’s Afraid?).

Contact2016 Committee Chair, Aimée Lindorff says it’s an exciting chance for Queensland to showcase its dynamic fan and writing culture on the national stage.

“The fan culture in Queensland has grown massively in recent years and the community loves attending events that give them a chance to engage with other fans and creators,” Ms Lindorff says.

“This is the first time Ben and Jill have visited Australia, and combined with the acclaimed talent of our local creators, this is sure to be an engaging and fantastic weekend for writers of speculative fiction.”

Held during the Easter long weekend (25th-28th March), Contact2016 will unite writers, readers, and fans of speculative fiction from throughout the country for a weekend celebration of fantasy, science fiction, horror, young adult, and other sub-genres in books, comics, film, television among other mediums. This is an opportunity to explore and debate the latest news and trends in the SpecFic community and engage with multiple facets of being a writer, a professional and a fan of speculative fiction.
