Creative Drinks: The Spring Fling Presents Dream Girl
Melinda Lyons | On 15, Sep 2014
We caught up with loveable band Dream Girl to discuss everything about music.
The sultry sounds of Dream Girl have been echoing throughout the dingy alleys of Fortitude Valley for a while now. After a short stint in acoustic post-punk Normalcore, they are back on the scene and are dressed to impress with a refined set of club bangers and heartfelt ballads.  They pride themselves on being “honestly top blokes”. “We don’t touch the controller with Doritos hands, never take the last piece, and despite the pleas of a certain patron at a certain Valley pub – we don’t do Guns n Roses covers”.  Who is the Dream Girl anyway? They will never tell.
CD: How did you get into music?
Dream Girl: Music is a very communal thing, we started off by listening to it like everyone else, that’s easy. The hard bit is making your own.
CD: What/who inspires you?
Dream Girl: Other musicians, each other, girls and growing up.
CD: What is a typical day like for you when you are writing or playing music?
Dream Girl: Work on new songs for a bit, practice old ones for a while, then get tired and sit around for ages achieving nothing and everything.
CD: What do you think of Brisbane’s music scene?
Dream Girl: It’s the envy of the nation, one of the most important breeding grounds of original music in Australia.
CD: If you could collaborate with any musician, living or dead, who would it be?
Dream Girl: Well since there are four of us that’s a bit hard to give just one, but Michael Jackson, Matt Healy, Kanye West, Bowie and Otis Redding would definitely be up there.
CD: What is your favourite band/musician?
Dream Girl: The Killers, The 1975, Violent Soho, and INXS of course.
CD: Where is a place you would love to perform?
Dream Girl: Splendour main stage at sunset.
CD: Can you give us 3 words you would use to describe your work?
Dream Girl: Indie rock ’n’ roll
CD: What are 3 words your friends would use to describe you, or your work?
Dream Girl: Irreversibly, uncomfortably arousing.
CD: Can you come up with a Creative Drink title that best describes you, and your art, and then draw your favourite Creative Drink?
Dream Girl: The Dreamy Dose.
