Creative Drinks: The Spring Fling Presents Elle-louise Burguez
Melinda Lyons | On 16, Sep 2014
We caught up with Elle-louise to discuss everything Art.
Elle-louise was born in Brisbane, in August of 1992, where she graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Creative Industries. Based on the Sunshine Coast, Elle-louise is finishing her Graduate Diploma and working on personal and commissioned projects. She invites her viewers to escape into the playful worlds she draws with watercolours, water pens and fine ink.
CD: How did you get into art?
Elle-louise: For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed creating different things, but the exact moment of getting into art is not clear to me.
CD: What inspires you?
Elle-louise: So many things inspire me. I could not list everything. I saw a beautiful girl called Banoffee play a show last night and she has inspired me! One thing that I have noticed that inspires me is certain memories or feelings that I want to relive in a drawing. It is hard to describe, but it could be a beautiful memory I have had of being on the beach in the middle of summer, and recreating that feeling I had through colours and shapes. It is strange because although every day I see new things that inspire me and influence what I create, at the moment I am finding it very hard to channel this inspiration into artwork.
CD: Favourite art piece?
Elle-louise: This one is hard because I want to say so many. For my current mood right now I would say anything by Seiichi Hayashi.
CD: What do you think of Brisbane’s creative scene?
Elle-louise: I think Brisbane is full of so many talented people! I think there are some great things going on and there is room for more.
CD: If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who would it be?
Elle-louise: Oh, when I answer questions like this I get indecisive because there are so many artists I admire, but for now let’s just say the director Abdellatif Kechiche.
CD: What is your dream job/future aspirations?
Elle-louise: It’s funny, as a kid I would say, “I’m going to be a singer, an actress and a modelâ€, and I truly believed that would happen. Now I want to do so many different things, but I think deep down I would be very content with a simple life living off my own land, making and selling art and getting to travel. I still really want to be involved in film and I will always make music as well… I daydream about this everyday!
CD: What is your favourite TV show?
Elle-louise: My ultimate favourites will always be Seinfeld and The Simpsons, but a current show I love is Please Like Me. It is so real and hilarious.
CD: Can you give us 3 words you would use to describe your work?
Elle-louise: Playful, nostalgic and uplifting.
CD: What are 3 words your friends would use to describe you?
Elle-louise: Crazy, fun, loving… I am not sure. One friend just said I am dreamy which makes me feel very happy.
CD: Can you come up with a Creative Drink title that best describes you, and your art, and then draw your favourite Creative Drink?
Elle-louise: Vanilla-Peach-Cherry-Rainbow Shake.
