Don't Expect an Ordinary Show from Comedy Genius Frank Woodley
Katherine Sullivan | On 04, Mar 2016
Comedy favourite Frank Woodley hits the stage this month as part of the Brisbane Comedy Festival. From K-mart jokes to awkward audience participation, this fast paced show will have you searching the web in a desperate attempt to find out when his next show is.
Frank Woodley is a name that most of us know due to his spending 20 years as half of the award-winning duo Lano and Woodley. Since hanging up his hat back in 2008, he has played a variety of sold-out stand up gigs across the country. His new show “Extra Ordinary” involves wacky anecdotes and a few costume changes in between.
Woodley began his show with a large and ever so crazy smile that instantly welcomed the audience. He had us in the palm of his hand, and don’t think for a second that he didn’t realise it. He is a genius at turning the “Extra Ordinary” aspects of his daily life into comedy gold.By this stage, if you weren’t laughing at his amusing jokes (seriously though, why weren’t you laughing?) you were laughing because of his outlandish facial expressions. As he fell, twirled and strutted across the powerhouse stage, there was absolutely no ignoring that he is a fantastic physical performer. The audience is treated to a delightful re-enactment of him as a clumsy model that involves some serious leg twitching.
A highlight of the show is when he reveals his deep dark secret – creating crappy costumes. He then goes on to demonstrate his passion by dressing up as Shakespeare and acting out his own play. Woodley isn’t afraid to take risks and it is definitely evident within the performance. In the 60 minute show, Woodley proves exactly why he is one of Australia’s most loved performers. He is a comedian, clown, actor and a crappy Shakespeare impersonator who is constantly creating characters and stories to entertain audiences.
