Experience Theatre Anywhere in Brisbane
Did you know that you can experience live theatre anywhere in Brisbane? I really do mean anywhere.
The 2013 event features a staggering number of shows – 49 to be exact – and proves Brisbane’s theatre culture is thriving.
Expect to stumble across a wide variety of theatre genres throughout the twelve day event. From Cabaret to Circus, Dance and even Poetry, you are guaranteed to find something to tickle your fancy. Don’t worry if you find you’re not usually the theatre-type; much of the audience is made up of folks who tend see live only performances once (or not at all) each year.
Here’s just a taste of the fun that’s going to be had:
My Struggle: The Life and Times of an Individ (In a World Full of Hipsters) by up-and-coming theatre troupe The Violent Romantics will take audiences on a very funny ride through the trials and tribulations of four soldiers on their quest to realise the ultimate cool of hipsterdom.
Looking to get your International Man of Mystery fix and can’t wait for Daniel Craig’s buff bod to grace our screens again?
Check out the comedy musical From Asia with Love featuring the very debonair spy Matt Ward, the villian Dr Wrong and the fabulous music of Bond. Oh, and did I mention you get to enjoy a three course meal as well?
If you’re after something very special (and free) that you won’t see anywhere else, you must check out Romeo & Juliet. It’s being put on by the students from the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 of May at 7.30pm. The performances are being held at the Centre’s beautiful heritage headquarters in Kangaroo Point. I have it on good authority that this show is not to be missed.
This could be the last Anywhere Theatre Festival you’ll get to enjoy for some time. We’ve heard that the event has fallen victim to the funding axe that has plagued the arts sector recently. Of course, that’s even more reason for you to get out and discover what the festival has to offer.
Want to find out more? Of course you do! Check out the event’s official website where you can browse all the shows on offer, search according to day and genre and even purchase your tickets (WARNING: distraction highly likely).
