Five Musical Acts To Catch At The Brisbane Festival

Five Musical Acts To Catch At The Brisbane Festival

| On 05, Sep 2014

The Brisbane Festival is quickly approaching, bringing with it a vast array of musical acts to fill the iconic Spiegeltent and various other venues. These are five of our picks from the 2014 musical offerings.

Juana Molina

Chilled out guitars, quirky rhythms and a breathy but solid voice combine to make Juana a great choice to perform in the gorgeous, mirrored Spiegeltent. Most easily described as an Argentinian incarnation of something between Feist and Fiona Apple, Juana’s music is very easy to listen to, and a show performed entirely in Spanish is bound to be a little different to your run-of-the-mill Thursday night gig.

Mignight Juggernauts

It doesn’t get much more solid as far as synth-rock goes, and Vincent and Andy Juggernaut, along with their pal Thunderfist, will bring their most recent audio-visual show Aerials. For 11:45 on a Friday night, the psych-brilliance of Midnight Juggernauts is just what the BrisFest doctor ordered.

Danny Harley is bringing The Kite String Tangle to BrisFest.

The Kite String Tangle

Local boy Danny Harley (you might have seen him playing in Pigeon) has been absolutely blitzing it here, and abroad, with his lyrical electro sound. We’ve all heard his moody vocals, cool samples and beats on Given The Chance, so it’s exciting to think what’s ahead for Danny, who is releasing an EP at the Brisbane Festival following appearances at Coachella and SXSW (mad props!).

Andy Bull

Keep on Running and Baby I Am Nobody Now are probably still rattling around in your head from last year, and now is your chance to see Bull perform these killer songs. The epic, synthy melodies and unique heavy hooks overlayed with Bull’s groovy vocals make for completely addictive tracks, and will undoubtedly be conducive to an incredible live show.

American Music Club

Moving on from Miley and Rihanna, American Music Club will be going down every night from Septermber 15-27. Featuring different genres each night including Jazz, Big Band, Blues/Soul and Latin/Dance, plus others, there’s bound to be something for everyone’s taste! No shame in admitting that I’ll be singing along loudly to the Musical Theatre performance…
