Geek Out At The Powerhouse This New Year's

See 2015 in amongst elves, sailor scouts and Stormtroopers at the Brisbane Powerhouse – secure your tickets to their gala New Years Event, New Years’ Geek today.
New Year’s Eve can be a harrowing time for us all. Cab lines, the “tactical vom” at ten, drink lines, terrible “see you next year” jokes, midnight-kiss-based anxiety, the general tenuous pressure to have the night to end all times, even if you pulled the short straw and said you’d be fine to work the next day.
Thank goodness the Powerhouse has your back this year. Branching out from its raucous “No Years” music festival of times past, the success of Supernova in Brisbane has prompted an event just for the geeks. New Years Geek boasts an evening of trivia, retro arcade games, film screenings, a cosplay prom and free refreshments. If you go crazy for cosplay, fantasy, gaming, music, movies, comics or anime (or if you just want to see the new year in one of Brisbane’s most iconic and chill creative spaces!) you’d be well-advised to buy your tickets now.
All Klingons, catgirls and Sontarons will be free to roam over the Powerhouse’s many levels, with highlights including a cosplay catwalk competition (searching for Cosplay Prom King, Cosplay Prom Queen, Most Accurate Costume, Most Inventive Home-Made Costume and Cosplay Group), classic arcade games throughout the venue and music from homegrown talent Boss Fight and local DJs.
Ticket includes a free drink and appetiser from Bar Alto on arrival. While they lack the funding for a Delorian or a TARDIS, the venue still does half the work in getting you home or to keep raging, with a courtesy bus from 11:30pm to 2am to Fortitude Valley.
