May means many things. The weather is cooling, twilight comes a few hours earlier and Mother’s Day is smiling at us on the horizon. Whether you are contemplating a small token for Mum, a gift of appreciation for others or just another sunny Sunday, here is a little compilation of some winning go-to solutions for the easy, thoughtful and minimalistic gift-giver.Â
Where: Stores at Queens Plaza, Fortitude Valley, Indooroopilly, Carindale & Chermside
With the extensive range of tea varieties, recipe books and homewares, I struggle to think of a special occasion when dropping by a T2 store won’t suffice.  The even funkier aspect to Mother’s Day shopping this year, is that for all of us time-conscious (badly organized?) ones out there, T2 have the option to have online orders delivered with free freight before May 11th – however, orders should be placed before the 5th. Check out their tempting Mother’s Day gift guide for further inspiration! And…as much as online shopping appeals to me, you’ll certainly find me picking up a tea set in store just to indulge in some free samples, for next time.
For the quaint homemakers and lovers of the handmade:Â My Beautiful Things Market @The Lavender Barn and Rose Cottage
Where: 16 Thurlow Street, Newmarket
Promising all things shabby chic, vintage, antique and handmade – this establishment is filled with treasures to pick and chose from. Have a browse; work your way through collections of garments, accessories and interior ideas before stopping off at the little café attached to let the creative, gift selection procedure commence.
Where: 5M Winn Lane, Winn Street, Fortitude Valley
Coffee table books are always a thing, but when one throws beautifully printed products from local and independent publishers … you have a winner. If you’re scouting something a little different, in the form of an inspiring magazine (art, society, design – you name it) or piece of stationary that trigger all sorts of creative pursuits, Künstler is certainly your one stop shop. Also, this creative space makes whiling away time an escape and an absolute pleasure.
… Don’t forget the fresh flower arrangements and perhaps if you’re seeking a new outing or bonding-baking-session, a trial of one of our favorite cafes and recipes could be in order. Happy days – to you, from us.
