Can you believe it has been ten years since the opening of The Gallery of Modern Art in Southbank? Neither can we!

But to celebrate their 10th birthday, GOMA are hosting a range of fantastic and FREE events including exhibitions, interactive programs and spectacular performances. Here is your guide to GOMA’s 10th Birthday and how to make the best of it!

This exhibition highlights the differences and connections between cultures through this Aboriginal and Pacific collection. Encompassing multiple feathered Banumbirr poles and a 22 metre black Ngatu Ta Uli (barkcloth), this exhibition presents engaging and beautiful traditional art.

Pip & Pop ‘Rainbow Bridge’
From ‘We miss you magic land’ 2011
Pip & Pop ‘Rainbow Bridge’ mixes reality with artificial flowers, crystals and sequins, plastic trinkets and glitter to create four aesthetically beautiful imaginary worlds.
Date: 12th November – 7th May

Anish Kapoor
Kapoor’s work draws on metaphysical theories and ideas, making him one of the most significant sculptors of our time. His use of saturated colours engages the viewer both physically and psychologically.
Date: 14th May 2016 – 3rd December

A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift
This exhibition celebrates a decade of artworks acquired by the support of a generous benefactor. From the dynamic study of light and shadow to dance to Michael Jackson’s greatest hits these multiple exhibitions encompass sound, sight and touch – creating an incredible sensory experience.
Date: 3rd December 2016 – 17th April 2017

This Land is Mine – This Land is Me
This collection of films explores how we can engage with the natural world. These films deliberate the politics and philosophy of land ownership and exploitation, cultivation and sustainability. This program features powerful stories about human experience and landscape and reveals how nature has impacted cinema and art.
Date: 3rd December – 26th February 2017
