Hakataya Ramen

Hakataya Ramen

| On 03, Jul 2013

Looking for a cheap and delicious winter warmer?

Take a trip to Brisbane’s south side for some flavour packed authentic ramen.

Hakataya Noodle Bar is one of Sunnybank’s most popular joints for the best in Japanese cuisine.

The menu consists of four soup noodle dishes all with their signature ‘Tonkotsu soup’ broth.

This pork bone broth is simmered for 39 hours so your taste-buds will get one hell of a party.

Topped with carefully selected Australian pork, slow-cooked and packed with delicious soy sauce and Japanese mirin flavours this traditional ‘char siu’ will tempt even the most fussy of eaters.

Here’s the best part – it is uber cheap and the servings are more than generous!

A mere $10.00 will get you a massive bowl of noodles and simply shout out ‘Kaedama!’ and a waitress will come calling with a whole bowl of extra noodles to add to your soup for FREE.

Yes, that’s right – more noodles for the price of nothing!

Of course if Japanese is not your strong point, asking for extra noodles in English is more than acceptable.

The free stuff doesn’t stop there!

If you come on your birthday and present your ID you eat for FREE!

And if that doesn’t fill your stomachs you can order mouth-watering gyoza, a fantastically addictive pork rice dish or those cute Japanese rice cakes.

The tiny kitchen is in full view so you can marvel at the wonderful art of cooking noodles and take in all the delightful aromas.

But be warned, come lunch time onwards you might think you somehow landed in Tokyo as this place gets jam-packed every day of the week.

The line does move relatively quickly though and takeaway is also an option (free extra noodles included).

Hakataya has become so popular they have opened another store across the road at Sunnybank’s  Market Square, famous for authentic Asian cuisine.

Perfect for a cold winter’s day or night, who wouldn’t want an authentic Japanese meal right in the heart of Brisbane’s lively, unofficial Chinatown.
