Highlights from BIGSOUND 2017

Last week saw the return of BIGSOUND Music and Conference. The festival brought together an incredible lineup for three nights of music across multiple Fortitude Valley venues.
Here’s four of the best performances that I caught at this year’s event.
Lupa J is a classically trained violinist who produces electronic indie music. Her technical skill partners beautifully with her flair for production. This set was a standout because of the sheer power behind each element of the performance. Lupa J possesses a powerful voice and impressive precision on the violin. If ever you get the chance to see Lupa J perform live, make sure you don’t miss it.
The Creases’ BIGSOUND appearance was nothing short of what we’ve come to expect from the Brisbane boys. They brought their debut album, Tremolow, to stage with a high energy, entertaining performance. The Creases were simply fun to watch, and that of course, is why you go to a music festival. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see them enjoying major success overseas in the near future.
Winston Surfshirt absolutely packed out Wooly Mammoth’s Mane Stage, and it wasn’t hard to see why. Their performance of Be About You was met with one of the festival’s most excited audience reactions, and the performance itself certainly didn’t disappoint. Winston Surfshirt proved that they know how to have and host a good time.
Last but certainly not least, is Aurelia. Aurelia earned her spot on this list with her enchanting vocals. Aurelia’s set saw the first performance of her new single Are We Losing, which was nothing short of incredible. The set has left us incredibly excited to see what she has to come in the future.
