Hittin’ the Bleach*: Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival

Featuring some of Australia’s best performers, Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival returns for its eighth year with a world-class line-up.

Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival brings 132 performances over 28 diverse productions, ranging from some of Australia’s best-known comedy acts, dance performance, performance poetry, opera, cabaret and more, across the festival’s 12 days.

The 2019 festival marks the eighth and final year of Louise Bezzina acting as the Artistic Director for Bleach*, and her final year looks to be the festival’s biggest year so far.

The headlining performances of the festival include Opera Queensland’s Verdi’s Requiem directed by Patrick Nolan and featuring more than 150 musicians and singers.

Helpmann Award-winning The Farm returns to Bleach* with their live-action thriller turned unique dance performance Throttle.

Townsville-based Dancenorth will be presenting a free fifteen-minute performance installation titled Tectonic, staged on Burleigh Beach twice nightly. The performance itself inspired by the struggles of Torres Strait communities facing the loss of their homes and lives to rising sea levels.

Among the production line-up of the festival are a number of amazing indigenous performances and installations, including My Urrwai by Ghenoa Gela, Ganngalanji (Listen Call-Out Think) presented by Quandamooka artist Libby Harward, and On This Land We Gather performed by Luther Cora and the Yugambeh Dancers.

Also returning this year is the dedicated beachfront festival hub Bleach* at Burleigh entertainment precinct, which is again playing host to a range of free live music and entertainment across the run of the festival, including a concert featuring ARIA-winning artist Montaigne.

Bleach* festival 2019 is underway right now, so get in quick to be a part of this landmark year for the festival, it’s going to be a jam-packed festival, and everyone should come out and experience all the festival has to offer this year.
