Holloway Restaurant Presents Pizzartist

Holloway Restaurant Presents Pizzartist

| On 28, Apr 2015

Tucked away on Hardgrave Road, hidden foodie gem Holloway presents their latest innovation, Pizzartist.

For those who don’t know, Holloway is a designer studio that handcrafts boutique eyewear and watches, turned home-style restaurant. The Creative Issue was there to attend the launch of Pizzartist on Wednesday, 22nd of April.

Co-founder and designer Martin Gordon Brown says they opened the restaurant to accommodate for customers who were spending a lot of time in the studio. “We wanted to make them more comfortable” he says.

Since then Holloway restaurant has become one of the most coveted spots to eat in town and now, a part-time pizzeria too.

Lampshades made out of old spectacles hang from the roof of the restaurant and deconstructed guitars act as shelves. Even the floor was created using wood slices and pebbles, which to me echoed the cobblestone streets of Rome.

The love that goes into each piece of meticulously handcrafted wrist and eyewear in the studio is matched by every meal that comes out of the kitchen. The seasonally changing menu features fresh produce sourced from organic suppliers and is complemented by fresh herbs grown in the restaurant’s own backyard.

The menu features a small number of standout meals, most of which are gourmet, wood fired pizzas made from 5000 spelt grain. The Marzia and the Julius Caesar pizzas were among these and were favourites on the night.

And for a little extra indulgence there’s always the tempting dessert pizzas – I can still smell cinnamon custard.

The restaurant is BYO and Martin says the bottle shop a few doors down do “good deals” for Holloway customers – great news for any cash-poor students like me.

Pizzartist is the perfect juxtaposition of authentic Italian flavours and food culture, and the eclectic charm one expects from West End – a whole new way to experience Italian.
