Hops 'n' Dawgs at Archive Beer Boutique

The American craze has swept across Brisbane, leaving a barrage of buffalo wings, burgers and burritos in its wake. The latest trend, being served at cocktail bars and restaurants alike is hot dogs with fanciful sauces and new flavour combinations being put together to astound even the Yanky-doodle-dandiest of them all.
Archive, a beloved Brisbane venue, known for its extensive list of craft beers is one of the latest to turn to this trend and boy, do they do it well.
Every Thursday night, Archive will be hosting their ‘Hops ‘n’ Dawgs’ event, with a short menu of gourmet hot dogs matched with American craft beers.
Initially, the term ‘gourmet hot dogs’ does sound ridiculous. I’ve always understood hot dogs as the leftover scraps of meat that are blended together at the end of the working day. These hot dogs, however, really do stand out.
Highlights include the chilli cheese dawg complete with a smoky cheddar sauce, chilli beef mince and a sticky and sweet onion jam layered amongst a pork sausage. Each mouthful with rich with flavour and perfectly matched with an American craft beer. I can still taste the unctuous mix of cheese and chilli and it’s making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Another favourite was the Philly cheese steak hot dog. That’s right. Meat upon meat. Juicy chunks of steak are strewn across a hot dog with sour cream and melted cheese ladled throughout. Whilst staring at this massive hot dog was quite daunting, I couldn’t bear to leave a crumb of it on the table, it was that delicious.
Although I did, of course, manage to drop sauce on my pants.
With an impressive array of craft beers matched to perfection with these hawt dogs, Archive’s Thursday night feast is one not to miss.
