How To Be Productive When Working From Home

How To Be Productive When Working From Home

| On 07, Feb 2015

It can be easy to become distracted when working from home. You’re in your own environment, surrounded by all of your own belongings, and it can be tempting to read that magazine, watch that movie or drink that bottle of red in your pyjamas. These helpful tips will help keep your day productive when you’re working from home.

1. Treat It Like A Real Job

Get up in the morning, have a shower and get out of those pyjamas and ready for action. Be strict on yourself and make yourself work the usual full eight hours a day. Give yourself a one hour break for eating and catching up on your social media feeds, and then get your butt back to work.

2. Make A Distraction-Free Work Environment

If you’re tempted to watch 17 episodes of Breaking Bad instead of getting your work done, eliminate these distractions. Create an office space that keeps your mind on the job, and your entertainment sources out of sight. Don’t do your work in the living room or on your bed; these are areas for relaxing, not working. Get your head in the game in your home office that is specifically for work, not play.

3. Phone Calls Only

Texting is a constant distraction and a time-consuming pass time. If you need to discuss something important, a quick phone call will get it out of the way. Better yet, only allow yourself to use your phone during your lunch hour.

4. Always Have A To-Do List

Writing down daily, weekly and monthly tasks with strict time limits will remind you of what must be done and motivate you to complete them. Having set tasks will keep your day productive, as opposed to procrastinating because you don’t know what to do next.
