HOW TO WIN $25K: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever Figured It Out
On Wednesday, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever became $25,000 richer. The Melbourne five-piece managed to nab the third round of the Levi’s Music Prize, an annual grant given to four artists every year by the clothing brand itself.
They join Stella Donnelly and Alex Lahey as winners so far this year, with the applications for the fourth and final round for 2017 open until the 11th June 2018 for artists that have played at BIGSOUND Festival within the last five years.
The Levi’s Music Prize aims to support mid-career artists: those who have seen some initial success but need the extra boost to keep their career moving with upward momentum. It’s the largest prize pool of its kind in Australia and will go a long way in supporting our home-grown acts.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are currently mid-way through a two-month overseas tour ahead of the release of their debut album in June. So far they’ve hit Coachella and Shaky Knees Festival in the United States, with The Great Escape in the UK, and Primavera Sound in Barcelona ahead of them this month.
This prize will be a welcomed extra boost in covering Rolling Blackouts’ tour costs, as travelling and performing overseas is expensive, especially for a five-piece band.
Are you a band or artist and want to apply for the prize but have never played BIGSOUND before? Good news! Submit an application to play at BIGSOUND 2018! All successful applicants are automatically in the running for the 4th round, which is announced at BIGSOUND in September.
BIGSOUND have extended their deadline until midnight of the 17th of May, so get in while you can! You have the chance to be like Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and have a sweet $25k in your pocket to help fulfil your musical dreams.
