‘I Woke Up Like This’: NYFW Beauty
Harriet Fraser | On 17, Sep 2014
With Birkenstocks, Adidas Slides and Nike trainers all the coveted 2014 footwear for designers, fashionistas and models alike there’s no denying ‘normcore’ is in. While it may have taken some of us a little more adjusting to than others, the runways of New York Fashion Week revealed this paired-down-no-nonsense city look is sticking around.
The runways show designers opted for natural, no fuss make-up and hair. Naturally radiant, slicked back pony tails and air dried waves means this Spring you’ll definitely want to ditch the makeup and amp up your beauty routine.
Here are our favourite looks of the week.
Golden Girls. Timless elegenace with a twist was on show on the Ralph Lauren runways. Models wore shimmery gold eye shadow across the upper lash line, and in the inner corners of the eyes showing off minimal, yet glowing skin.
Sleek & Sexy. An ode to the classic minimalism of Calvin Klein, hairstylist Guido Palau opted for sleek oriental inspired chignons worn high on the head. This look is simple yet sophisticated, mostly sleek with a few loose wispy ends to soften the look. The ultimate go-to as the weather warms up.
Bronzer & Blush. This natural and effortless look was perfectly pretty as models faces were swept with a bronzer-blush duo, adding a hint of shimmer to the face. Lips were rosy red for a natural, just bitten look. The perfect spring look.
Oscar de la Renta
The Winning Wing. Sleek pony tails and thick winged eye liner were on show at Oscar de la Renta, the models looking beautifully feminine. If anything is more obvious from the Oscar de la Renta runways it’s that beachy waves are out and sleek and chic is in. Hairstylist Orlando Pita’s tip? Use hairspray rather than gel to achieve the sleek shine without the grease.
Ultra Simple, Zero Makeup. While minimal makeup was clearly the look du jour, Marc Jacobs opted to send his models down the runway makeup free, nothing but a clean face and a hint of moisturiser. Such a natural approach allowed each of the models beauty to shine through, adhering to ‘normcore’ and highlighting the importance of skin care to pull off this effortless look.
