Legendary foodie family the Tognini’s, owners of Tognini’s Café Deli in Milton and Tognini’s Trattoria in Spring Hill take it up a notch with Il Locale.

Il Locale is all about bringing you a taste of northern Italy, paying homage to quality produce and serving ‘good’ portions.

Open two heavy, carved wooden doors to the smell of freshly baked bread and be greeted by the pizza chef, lovingly kneading his dough for the night ahead. The mainly Italian staff set the scene for an authentic Italian experience.

Amongst the selection of home-style, rustic, comfort food delights it is almost impossible to choose just one option, so we decided to gorge ourselves on a three course feast.

From the sputini selection, make sure you try the crumbed and fried olives stuffed with pork mince, or if arancini balls are more your taste try the tomato arancini with fior di latte and peas.

For main it is hard to go past an Il Locale handmade pasta dish, but choosing which one will be a hefty challenge – I recommend the tagliatelle with lamb ragu

Or if you’re more of a pizza person maybe the ‘Boscaiola’ will tickle your fancy, with mushroom, gorgonzola, smoked pancetta and fior di latte.

Throw it all down with one of Il Locale’s unique Italian wines – perhaps the Fat Bastard pinot noir?

After all that, make sure you save room for dessert, trust me you won’t be disappointed. You cannot go past the chocolate fondant with burnt caramel ice-cream – it takes the cake as one of the most indulgent, decadent, and delicious desserts I have tasted.

I think the photo evidence speaks for itself but Il Locale is one of those classic restaurants that will always deliver authentic tastes and explore flavours to inspire dishes that have you coming back again and again.

If you’re craving Il Locale’s fresh pasta at home don’t stress, you can bring home the taste of northern Italy by purchasing a gnocchi or ravioli pack to-go from Tognini’s Café Deli.

Il Locale is open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday to Sunday from 11:30am.
