International Womens Day at Crowbar
Get inspired this IWD by listening to the conversations of Brisbane’s women in music. All proceeds are going towards Girls Rock Brisbane, so head to Crowbar and enjoy the acoustic sets, DJs and BBQ.
Making up the musicians of the panel include Brisbane royalty Maz Devita (WAAX), Monica Sottile (sweater curse) and Kellie Loyd (Screamfeeder, APRA AMCOS). Looking beyond the stage, we have industry experts Viv Mellish of GYROstream (PR / Events), Summer King of The Mustard Mix (Management), Ruby-Jean McCabe of QMusic (Management / Bookings) and Grace Pashley of 4ZZZ.
Informed by her career as an academic and musician, moderator Dr Kiley Gaffney will be bringing a wealth of knowledge to the panel. With culture and gender studies as the backbone of her 2015 thesis Cosmopolitan Tendencies in Intersubjective Art, the conversations will certainly resonate with the audience long after taking place.
Sunday’s performances include acoustic sets from Hope D, Bridget Brandolini and Hollie Harrison. Just this week Hope D was awarded Emerging Artist Of The Year at the Queensland Music Awards, making this an exciting time to catch an intimate set of hers.
Girls Rock Brisbane has been hosting week-long camps since 2016, providing a positive environment to develop confidence, community and musical skill for girls, trans and non-binary adolescents. The results speak for themselves during the end-of-week showcases, proving initiatives like GR play a significant role in pressing for social change, especially in the music industry. You can learn more about their work on their website.
