CD: What led you to get into fashion design?

Eliza: I had always loved creating things with my hands. I grew up sewing my own clothes from my Nanna’s scraps, who gave me some direction in my completely self-taught trade. I never ever had cool style growing up, but once I found my own style and wanted to share it, I knew I wanted to make a career out of fashion.

CD: What has been your biggest struggle in branching out and creating your own label?

Eliza: I believe my biggest struggle has been the lack of companionship to bounce ideas back and forward with. I had this daily when I was studying fashion design, but since branching out on my own, it’s been a little scary following through with ideas that have come straight from my head.

CD: What has been the biggest achievement for you as a fashion designer?

Eliza: I’d say the response of my first collection was overwhelmingly positive, with a buyer taking it overseas to a couple of fashion weeks to showcase.

CD: I know you recently released a new collection entitled, Yesterday Morning. What was your inspiration behind these designs?

Eliza: I wanted to create a collection that had a sleepwear feel, with relaxed and effortlessly chic pieces.

CD: Finally, what advice can you give young designers wanting to break into the fashion world?

Eliza: Try not to let the ‘no-one-makes-it-in-the-fashion-industry’ story get you down. Take the risk.
