Introducing Beach Burrito to the Valley

Introducing Beach Burrito to the Valley

| On 22, Dec 2013

Beach Burrito brings a chilled, surfer atmosphere to Brisbane’s clubbing district.

Sydney based Beach Burrito Company has opened up shop in Fortitude Valley. BB takes a colourful and cheeky twist on Mexican cuisine, and boasts a funky, embellished fit-out.

Don’t be fooled by the understated entrance – the walls are bursting with colourful Day-of-the-Dead-esque skulls and the restaurant opens onto a mini beach complete with sand and a view of the sky.

The unbeatable atmosphere transported me in a whirlwind to Bondi Beach BB… Or it was just some left over salt from the tequila trapped in my upper lip hairs.

The menu was crammed with drool-worthy Mexican favourites, luckily the menus are laminated.

Their most ordered items are the burritos, fajitas or enchiladas. Two of my risk-averse friends ordered the ‘Pulled Seasoned Beef Burrito’. They were disappointed with the undercooked black beans, but I didn’t have a problem with them in my ‘Tofu and Slow Roasted Veg Fajita’.

You may be thinking, what an ethnically confused filling.

However, the filling was decent, and it’s refreshing to find an innovative vegetarian burrito/fajita filling.

If I had my time again, I may have swapped my fajita for a burrito, as I completely overlooked the bonus corn chips and fell deeper and deeper into my burrito sloppiness. Not sure if it’s worth the $3-5 hike in price.

Beach Burrito doesn’t quite get the value-for-money gong as I find you’d get better value at some of the fast-food Mexican alternatives.

The food itself wasn’t overly impressive, and didn’t meet the flavour expectations of Beach Burrito in Sydney.

That said, the Valley’s Beach Burrito worth checking out and they have some sweet daily deals to make the bill a little less hefty:

Monday: All meals $15
Tuesday: $2 tacos and $3 beers
Wednesday: $7 margaritas
Thursday: $12 for two tacos and a beer
Friday: $20 beer and burrito
Sunday: $20 sangria litre – Hola Sunday sesh!

Salsa and shimmy down to Beach Burrito and enjoy a light snack and a drink before your night out on the town. A new place to eat before a night out? Salud! I’ll drink to that.

Not a great value meal, but the unique atmosphere renders it an appropriate pitstop before a night out.
