Jinja Safari on Safari - Coming to a Zoo Near You!

Excuse the pun, but it’s just too darn cute to neglect. If you’re not that quick with the puns or with words, Jinja Safari are headed to Brisbane and they are playing at The Zoo on Friday May 24th.
Highly acclaimed Australian band, Jinja Safari kicked off their nationwide tour on Wednesday last week in Melbourne. Hitting Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and ending their tour in Sydney.
Jinja Safari originally formed by Marcus Azon and Cameron ‘Pepa’ Knight, now includes Joe Citizen, Alister ‘Nugget’ Roach, and Jacob Borg. The 5 piece are from the Central Coast of New South Whales, now based in Sydney.
Jinja Safari’s compilation album, Locked by Land is a collection of African inspired dreamy folk pop songs from their first and second EP’s. The music is totally unique; each song offers a new experience, with flutes, and percussion, all brought together by the distinctive lead vocals of Marcus Azon.
“I grew up in Tasmania and my grandmother lives in Uganda, in the town of Jinja – so for some reason I always felt the connection to the music of Africa, and how, despite the oppressions of countless dictatorships, genocide and apartheid, the people of Africa always found a way to smash a drum, yelling with a giant smile, dancing barefoot in the dirt” says Marcus.
After watching the band play at Falls Festival in 2012, I fell in love. Jinja Safari radiates energy and fun on stage. They are without doubt one of my favourite Australian acts, and probably one of the best on-stage performances at Falls (and I only caught the last 10 minuets).
With Jinja Safari’s debut album on the way, get down to see them when they play what is sure to be a fantastic energy-filled performance at The Zoo. Get your tickets at Oztix.
