July Staff Picks

Welcome to our July favourites post. We can’t believe it’s already August, but before you let the fact that we’re now officially more than half way through the year sink in, check out what we were loving last month.

Melinda: British singer-songwriter George Ezra has been featured in all of Melinda’s playlists lately. She’s also been going to a lot of markets, with the Night Noodle Markets and Carseldine Markets being her favourites.

Laura: Visiting Morningside’s Flour & Chocolate bakery, reading The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides, browsing online store Revolve, and snuggling in her comfy doona on cold mornings have all been on Laura’s to do list this July.

Jill: Editor and fashion writer Jill is loving all the mid-season sales and drinking tea in the morning sun. Shopping and relaxing sounds like the perfect winter weekend!

Caroline: The Chocolate Caramel Chia Puddings from Raw Juicery are a delicious vegan snack Caroline has been into lately. She also loves Vaseline cocoa butter – sensing a chocolate theme here – and picnics in New Farm Park.

Joshua: No Lights No Lycra is a worldwide dance movement that has recently started up in Brisbane. Josh tried it this month (for a review click here) and it’s made it onto his favourites list. He’s also been reading Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami.

Sophie: Sophie says “I’m really digging Sticky Fingers’ psych-rock-reggae and their new song Just For You. I also love those potato tornado things that you get at the markets. Chicken salt me up.”

Alicia: Asian cuisine, oats for breakfast, and Ed Sheeran’s latest album, X, have been some of the highlights of Alicia’s July.

Harriet: Harriet loves the warmer days for picnics at which she loves Botanica’s amazing salads.

Giulietta: Giulietta has been having winter trips to the beach and cocktails from Gerard’s Bar. She has also been enjoying the colder days that allowed her to wear her knit sweaters.

Alex: Last month The Vines announced a new album, so Alex has been listening to their discography in preparation for the latest edition.

Bianca: “Flying back into Brisbane airport from a 40 hour trek back from Europe. From above, the glisten of the Brisbane River made me feel something that neither the River Thames nor Berlin Spree ever could,” Bianca says. “And serious third wave coffee, and brunch in the winter sun. Reverends & Sourced Grocer are the goods.”

Vanessa: Like Melinda, Vanessa has been loving all the new markets. She says she visits Carseldine, the Gap, Love Your Local Markets, and Boundary Street Markets. She also loves how inventive everyone is getting with their fruit smoothes, using things like cacao, lucema, almonds, chia seeds, goji berries, and hemp seed oil. Chili hot chocolates have been a favourite, too.

Ratu: Ratu participated in Dry July and even though he says it sucked, he made it! And it was all for a good cause. Well done Ratu!

Amy: I went to the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre The One, The Only show recently (post coming soon from Jill) and fell in love with a lot of bags and dresses featured. My absolute favourites were Ted Baker’s tote bags. Keep an eye out for the Spring Summer season launch!

Before we know it, August favourites will be here! What have you been enjoying this June? Let us know and we’ll see you next time.
