New music from Born Joy Dead

While many are still tearful at the reality of losing Hungry Kids of Hungary back in 2013, Born Joy Dead affirms hopes that music of the same calibre and catchiness is still being conceived.
Featuring former Hungry Kids member Ben Dalton, and described as his “new projectâ€, Born Joy Dead creates similarly groovy tunes, though a little more bluesy and with a definite darker tone than Dalton’s former band. Also featuring Mitch Clark,
Latest release “Stones in my Shoe†off the band’s forthcoming first EP is a percussive treat that develops into a cruisey (out-of) love song. Some interesting phrasing, possibly thanks to Dalton’s role as bassist in Hungry Kids, keeps the track rolling forwards, with a relaxed and pleasingly constant guitar track affirming the group’s genre as casual indie rock.
Though they’ve played a bunch of local shows recently, you can be sure to catch Born Joy Dead live for their imminent EP tour. Keep your ears attuned to ensure you experience the pleasure of hearing “Upside Down Inside Outâ€, (the first track the band released) a lilting tune that sounds sweet but feels a little darker upon close inspection of the lyrics.
Dalton’s casual on-stage manner is easy to warm to, which, combined with unexpected structures and honest lyricism, as well as enormous levels of combined musical talent, makes Born Joy Dead a great live band.
