Don’t have the time or money to travel to New Zealand but still want to immerse yourself in the culture? Sounds like The New Zealand Food and Wine Festival is your answer. Kia Ora!

On Saturday the 7 March, The Creative Issue went along to the New Zealand Food and Wine Festival at the Bulimba Golf Club to celebrate all things New Zealand.

From live music performed by local artists to traditional New Zealand dancers and pop-up bars selling delicious ciders, beers and wines; there was truly something to please everyone.

Not only this, but there was a selection of 25 gourmet food vendors serving up amazing food inspired by New Zealand’s flavours, such as kiwi fruit iced tea and lamb banh mi, as well as classics such as fish and chips, lamb and lamingtons.

Hosted by the The Design Collective, a family owned and operated food and drink event business, it was the first time they had done a cultural themed event since starting their business five years ago.

Event manager for The Design Collective, Matt Whaley, said over they whole day they would probably see around 4000 to 5000 people attend the event.

The Design Collective is just myself and my partner Kat, plus a very helpful father, we are a family run business and it takes us about four to five hours to set it all up.”

“Obviously, there is a lot of help from different people, all the food trucks bring their own set up.”

“It’s all about coordinating, keeping it all together and knowing the shape and space and making sure the whole thing flows.”

There was free entry into the event plus amazing entertainment that included live music from local artists, New Zealand Maori dancers and Danny Faifai from the Koi Boys, who you may recognise from The Voice last year.

By the end of the night almost everyone at the event ended up near the front of the stage and having a boogie to the live music with a beer or glass of wine in hand.

The event was fully licensed and dog friendly, so the whole family could relax, roll out their picnic rug and enjoy the amazing food, drinks and entertainment that The New Zealand Food and Wine Festival had to offer.
