Ooh Mami opens in Bulimba

Ooh Mami opens in Bulimba

| On 23, Aug 2014

There is nothing more comforting than a home cooked meal at the end of a long day. So to satisfy hungry tummies, a new canteen named Ooh Mami swings open its doors.

The new eatery, positioned on a corner block off Oxford Street in leafy Bulimba takes cues from ‘homestyle cooking’ and meals prepared by ‘mami’.  Its name also plays on the word ‘umami’ – the often forgotten  basic taste alongside salty, sour, sweet and bitter.

Ooh Mami’s founders, two brothers and their best mate, hail from Sydney and love nothing more than a home-cooked meal made with fresh ingredients and minimal fuss. They’ve designed the new dining spot to serve busy locals, who are lookingfor a quick, yet nutritious feed that tastes just like it would at home.

For Ooh Mami, they have drawn inspiration from their own mother to create a place that is reminiscent of traditional family life – even the kitchen is exposed to customers, so that it really feels like you have arrived home to a hearty meal. “Our mother’s love goes into each and every one of her recipes, so there is nothing as loving as a home cooked meal,” said Mohammed Khcheiche, one of the founders.

“Our story, like our food, will give you a nice feeling and remind you of the meals your mother used to cook at home,” he said. “We wanted home-style cooking to be more accessible to people who have limited time to prepare weeknight meals, but are looking for a healthy option – either to takeaway or dine-in.”

With hearty salads such as quinoa and pumpkin and ‘Mami’s square meals’ ranging from fresh salmon to slow braised beef served with a Memphis slaw this canteen is far beyond the old school yard.

Ooh Mami is all about family, health and home and with these three principles you are sure to have a good time.
