Palms Mediterranean Bar & Grill

Looking for a taste of the Mediterranean in the suburbs? Head over to the newly renovated Westfield Garden City and grab a table at Palm Mediterranean Bar and Grill.
If you live on the south side you will know the very real struggle of trying to find a nice café to stuff your face in. Sure the south side spoils us rotten with endless amazing Asian joints but it seriously fails on the swanky places to eat other exciting food category. Westfield has finally give Garden City the renovation it deserves and the new outdoor dining precinct has been welcomed with opened arms.
This new area boasts a central lagoon, deck chairs and pool boys (yes ladies, you read that right: foreign, delicious, occasionally topless pool boys strut around the lagoon apparently there for you to ask your questions about the shopping centre, but I’, pretty sure it’s just eye candy). Moving on… Palms is situated right along the lagoon with a high bar table overlooking the tranquil water, it feels as if you are far from suburbia and have magically transported to a beachside locale.
The décor and interior is just what the doctor ordered: fresh, open, with pops of colour and a modern relaxed atmosphere. Chef Joshua Wilby has worked in Michelin starred kitchens and has spent several years in London along with Brad Jolly Executive Chef and Owner of the much renowned Alchemy restaurant are the genius behind this humble operation and oh what a joy it is.
Palms works on the ever popular share meal concept. There are bite sized dishes of dips, dolmades and olives; small plates of pork cheeks, grilled haloumi, Italian meatballs and an adorably named ‘bikini’ a pressed sandwich of jamon with smoked cheese and date puree, because who doesn’t like a grilled cheese sandwich! If you are a fan of cured meats Palms will not disappoint with a wide selection of cured Spanish and Italian meats. The main plates are all about fresh pasta dishes and meaty creations. Chicken with harrisa, crab linguini and a smoked salmon gnochetti pasta to name a few.
Once you’ve shared all the savoury move along to the sweets. The chocolate mousse was to die for and the rum baba, a winning combination of sweet brioche with vanilla ice cream was an absolute treat, you probably will not want to share.
With a beautifully crafted summer selection of cocktails and a well thought out seasonal menu Palms offers quality food in the often forgotten south side suburbia.
