Psychedelic And Progressive Music Overload At Psych Night 2014

Psychedelic And Progressive Music Overload At Psych Night 2014

| On 05, Sep 2014

This Saturday night will see seven consciousness-bending bands deliver a six-hour show to fans of out-there rock music.

This is the fifth instalment of the Psych Night series of shows, the previous four being sold-out performances.

The show is the mastermind of two local bands, Magenta Voyeur and The Unofficials.

According to Mark Cosgrove, guitarist in Magenta Voyeur “Psych Night started as a way to celebrate the music and art we enjoy and make; bringing together a like-minded community of friends and mutual employment seekers.”

“We wanted to make it the kind of gig we would love to see. Interesting venue, quality bands, visuals and lighting to match, and a relaxed friendly vibe.”

Headlining the evening will be The Grand Rapids, a psychedelic rock band travelling all the way from Melbourne.

This band’s performance at Psych Night is a part of their mini-tour in support of their new 7″ single Copper Girl.

As well as performances from the two organising bands, the rest of the night’s line-up consists of The Scrapes, Dead Sun, Hobo Magic and House of Giants.

On the subject of choosing bands to play, Cosgrove says “We …chat about bands we’ve seen live around town and really enjoyed.

“Also, we are contacted by those who have been to previous Psych Nights, or heard about it, to check out their bands.

“Acts doing really interesting stuff usually find their way to us.”

In keeping with the theme of unusual venues, Psych Night will be held at a warehouse in Bowen Hills which belongs to Serafini Chains, a local manufacturing business.

Of course, no psychedelic music event is complete without an impressive light show.

According to Cosgrove “We use most of our own lighting for the show, stuff we’ve collected over the last two years.

“We try to keep it as DIY and communal as possible, we hire locally for the really awesome gear when we need it.”

With Psych Night 2014 fast approaching, fans of psychedelic and progressive music won’t want to miss out on tickets to this unique and promising event.
