Queensland Theatre's hopeful October Return

Queensland Theatre’s hopeful October Return
Charles Lawson

After an influx of donations and community support the Queensland Theatre has provided an update on their 2020 status and schedule, going forward under new Covid-19 restrictions. The organization expressed regret that they are no longer able to continue with the 2020 Season as planned, leaving some productions to the waste side.

The Theatre is planning for an October return. Hoping to carry out a mini-season through to the end of the year. This will most likely consist of Triple X, Prima Facie and Queensland Premier’s Drama Award-winner The Holidays. Once the social distancing restrictions have been relaxed, the organization plans to reopen the Billie Brown Theatre to begin bookings, and ticket transfers. The production of the highly anticipated Boy Swallows Universe, will also be continuing with Queensland Theatre and Brisbane Festival at the helm of the adaptation.

This means productions of Othello, The Children, Phaedra and FIFTY! will not go into production. All ticket holders are instructed to contact Queensland Theatre’s Box Office team for any assistance adjusting ticket holdings. In the mean time Queensland Theatre is looking forward to making more digital content after the success of its Quality Time with QT program and The Scene Project.

Hopefully the Queensland Theatre will be able to bounce back in October and continue to provide for our local arts community. We wish the artists affected by Covid-19 and the current public health provisions the best of luck in these trying times.
