Step aside long cooking times and mountains of sugar. Here’s a quick, healthy and tasty version of one of toast’s best friends: raspberry jam.

This raspberry chia seed jam takes only five minutes to make and requires no cooking. It’s the ideal complement to your peanut butter sandwich and it’s versatile too. Try adding it to smoothies and muffin mixtures or as a topping on porridge, granola and fruit salad.

Unlike most store-bought jams this version is free from refined sugar, preservatives, and artificial colours and flavours so you’ll not only indulge your tastebuds but nourish your body too. The addition of chia seeds also means you’ll increase your intake of fibre, protein and omega-3s.

Raspberry chia seed jam
Makes one small jar

1 cup fresh or thawed frozen raspberries
1-2 tbsp pure maple syrup
1 tbsp chia seeds
½ tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp water

1. In a small bowl, lightly mash the raspberries with a fork.

2. Add in the remaining ingredients and mix well.

3. Place the raspberry jam into a jar or container and let it set in the fridge overnight. This jam will keep in the fridge for up to one week.

Have fun and experiment: add some lemon zest to give your jam zing, swap the raspberries for another berry or even combine a few!
