Raw brownies with choc-banana ganache

| On 04, May 2014

Instead of raiding the garden for unfound Easter eggs, try these raw chocolate brownies that happen to be sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and very, very tasty.

Curbing chocolate and sugar cravings is challenging but not impossible. It just takes a bit of tricking the mind with delicious, healthy alternatives. These raw brownies are sweet, sticky and rich without the need for added sugar. They are packed with fibre and protein and are a great source of energy that will keep you full (unlike our friend, the chocolate bar).

Eating more healthily should never mean eliminating chocolate completely (because a world without chocolate is a joyless one). But it just so happens that combining cacao with wholesome, nutritious ingredients is not only just as delicious but much healthier too. You may be sceptical but give these raw brownies a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Raw brownies

Ingredients
¾ cup walnuts
¼ cup rolled oats
1 cup Medjool dates
3 tbsp cacao powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
a pinch of salt

Method
1. Place the walnuts and oats in a food processor and blend until the mixture is crumbly.

2. Add in the remaining ingredients and process well to form a thick, sticky mixture.

3. Press the brownie mixture into a 4×4 baking pan lined with cling wrap and place in the freezer while you make your ganache.

These raw brownies are best kept in the freezer. Simply take them out from the freezer, let them sit for 5 minutes, then dig in.
