Ready To Wear: Autumn Trends
Jordan Maass | On 26, Feb 2015
New York Fashion Week may be over, but the runway trends are now ready to be worn off the catwalk just in time for Autumn.
From the opening of the first show at NYFW, there has been a clear and overwhelming theme for each collection. These repeated trends result in the imitation on our streets by dedicated fashion followers.
Trends give an image for each season and give us an excuse to clean out the wardrobe and hit the shops. This season, Fall 2015, was a seventies, fringed adventure that had hints of fox fur, shearling and luxe relaxed wear.
THE 70’S LOOK
The seventies revival continues for Fall with designers such as Rebecca Minkoff, BCBG Max Azria, Karen Walker and Zimmermann. Boho dresses, art deco prints and leather boots were all the rage on the runway, proving that the days of Patti Smith and Ali Macgraw are timeless.
FUR SURE
Whether it’s fox on jacket lapels, or stoles over chunky knits, fur, faux or real, was everywhere during NYFW. Appearing on the runways of Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors and Sally LaPointe, a chic fur is always in style.
ON THE FRINGE SIDE
While fringe appeared sporadically during the Spring 2015 shows, it was like every designer was thinking on the fringe side for Fall. From Ralph Lauren to J. Mendel, it appeared on skirts, dresses and shawls as well as accessories including suede boots and saddle bags.
A SHEARLING THING
If you’re not brave enough to don fur, the more conservative but never the less stylish option is shearling. With designers like Donna Karan, Coach, Ralph Lauren and Rag & Bone opting to use the texture for statement coats, you won’t go unnoticed in shearling.
SWEATER LUXE
Whether it’s chunky, structured or relaxed, luxe sweaters are a more relaxed way to look chic. Tibi, Victoria Beckham, The Row and DKNY have all agreed that comfort is best with more forgiving silhouettes offered for Fall.
CULOTTES FOR SHORT
A slight sceptic when it comes to culottes, I was surprised when they appeared all over the runways for Fall 2015. Although I still don’t think they are the most flattering of shapes, there were plenty of desirable options for the ladies from Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang, DKNY and Proenza Schouler.
SHINE, SHINE,SHINE
Whether you shine, shimmer, or glitter, it’s all about getting noticed in this bold trend. With high shine coats at Alexander Wang and Calvin Klein to shimmering dresses at Prabal Gurung and Altuzarra, this trend is very versatile to fit into your current wardrobe.
