Real Food, Real Easy At Botanica

Trying to eat healthy but a little too lazy to make lunch yourself? Botanica Real Food is the cure, as their takeaway salads will leave you feeling full and fantastic.
Located in Red Hill, Botanica Real Food makes (you guessed it) real food in the form of meat-free hearty salads, that are so full of flavour, it is hard to believe they are good for you. Not only are their salads perfect for vegetarians, but there are several that are either dairy or gluten free, meaning that people with food intolerances, or allergies, can easily find something on the menu.
Their salad menu consists of about 10 salads, with around six chosen and made each day. There are three pack sizes, with a small for $10, and you can mix and match a number of salads in each takeaway box, giving you lots of flavour variety.
If you head in store and are wondering what to try, here are our favourites:
Chickpeas, roasted capsicum with fresh herbs, tomato and feta cheese. Brown rice, pumpkin, roast peppers, onion and baby spinach with soy and coriander dressing. Israeli cous cous, roasted sweet potatoes, baby spinach, vegan super greens pesto, and lastly, kale, parmesan and sourdough croutons with roasted garlic dressing.
There are no signs in store, but the staff will tell you what each salad is, and if they contain any gluten or dairy.
The family size pack is huge and costs $25, it’s a great choice to use as a main for yourself, a side to share with family, or can keep you going for lunch, or dinner, for a few days. The medium is $15 and the portion size will easily set you up for a lunch and dinner.
So you’ve bought your healthy salad and want to reward yourself with a sweet treat? Botanica have you covered for that too with their jaw-dropping selection of gluten free treats. Like the salads there are a selection on display each day including brownies, donuts, cupcakes and muffins. To help you decide (and trust us you will need the help so you don’t leave with one of everything) here are the must-try’s:
Cinnamon bundt donut, fresh crushed strawberry cupcake, passionfruit cupcake, and the ginger and golden syrup bar cake with poached pear. The cupcakes will set you back $5, and bundts and cookies are $4, which is a bit on the pricey side, but they are so delicious that you can justify it.
Botanica also sells fresh bread, and gluten savoury tarts for $8 including spinach and feta, pumpkin and caramelized onion, or tomato.
As a takeaway shop Botanica is perfect for picnics, work, or a meal at home. We are praying for the day it becomes dine-in as well, but until then we will happily take our healthy salads and tasty treats to go!
